Jeff Kane on Fire Ecology

Two-part interview of Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) forestry professor Jeff Kane by Greg Condon.

In part 1, Dr. Kane describes their wildland fire management program. He provides ecological and historical context for forest carbon accounting and our recent California wildfires, and how this points to solutions as well as careers in fire management.

In part 2, Professor Kane uses the Fire Lab at HSU for a live demonstration of the rate of spread of fire through different fuel types—specifically white oak and Douglas-fir litter—while providing ecological context and information about flammability of other species.
