Mark Chapman interview

An interview in two parts with a Salmon Creek rancher about repairing logging damage, fighting the 2003 Canoe Fire, salvage logging his burned trees, and finally obtaining, together with the adjacent state park administration, a grant for a shaded fuel break.

Part 1 aired July 20, 2022. Mark teaches interviewer Greg Condon a few things about cattle management, then reveals his method for getting gully restoration to pay for itself.

Part 2 aired August 3, 2022. How the 2003 Canoe Fire was a turning point for Mark, both in his life and in managing the land. After salvaging damaged timber and moving in permanently, Mark eventually engaged with Mattole Restoration Council and neighboring Humboldt Redwoods State Park to establish a protective shaded fuel break.
