  • The Journalism Project

    ISF interviews experts and hosts discussions on a wide variety of forestry-related topics for broadcast on KMUD public radio.

    Every show of the Sustainable Forestry Journalism Project presents a different aspect of harmonizing our lives and our economy with the life and economy of the forest.

  • Agroforestry

    ISF promotes and encourages the establishment of integrated food, fiber, herbs and medicine within the forest through education, promotion of indigenous uses, and cultivation of agroforestry plants.

  • Hikes and Field Trips

    ISF leads hikes and outings to sites of interest. These have included Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, KP's Custom Milled Redwood in Piercy, and campouts in the footprint of the August Wildfire Complex. Experts provide information and answer questions during the events.

  • Biochar

    Beginning in 2018, ISF has offered training workshops in making and using biochar—charcoal that serves as a soil amendment. Biochar transforms forest waste from fuel reduction projects into a useful resource at low cost.

    With the combined expertise and experience of its principal members, ISF offers guidance in sustainable forest management to groups and individuals.
