Redwood at South Fork High Becomes Valuable Lumber

Brooke Cena (R) helps a student measure a slab destined to become a table for his school.

A large redwood tree that lost its top and started dropping branches on the South Fork High School campus has been harvested and made into lumber and slabs for the local community.

Max Brotman of Cutty Timbers completed the milling with his crew on May 13–14 2024 with support from Lonny Whitlow, owner of Workhorse Welding in Miranda, who loaned a forklift.

This project was written up in Red Headed Blackbelt (more story and photos) and the Times-Standard.
